I want to make a new light fixture for our living room. When we moved into this house, we discovered that some of the existing light fixtures weren’t really our style. They’re cool – just really modern. Colin and I have a much more, um… thrift store style.
Our new house is something of a project house – lots of little cosmetic jobs to be done, twenty five year old kitchen and bathrooms, etc. Colin’s got a workshop in the basement where he is already starting to do some carpentry work and I want to start some tinkering myself.
I don’t really have any experience making things, save the jewelry I made as a kid. Seed beads in a loom require a bit of patience and hand control, but it’s not exactly complicated.
Shit, I can’t even figure out my kid’s rainbow loom, so I’m hesitant to start something like this…
But dammit… I want a really cool, pendant style fixture to go over our dining room table. I want it to be really simple – probably three or four edison bulbs either with or without clear globes hanging on fabric wrapped cords all fixed to a flat stained piece of wood.
I want wire like this. I think it would be one of those cool things where from far away, it looks grey, but once you’re up close, you can see the detail.
And there are so many cool accessories.
So, now that I’ve figured out what I want, it’s time to figure out how to do this exactly… I have no experience with electrical stuff. I have no experience with carpentry, but dammit. I want to do this!
